Networking
What is a connection?
A connection (sometimes referred to as a contact or friend) is someone to whom you
are directly connected on CyVee. A direct connection is in the 1st degree of your
network and you are in the 1st degree of their network.
What is my network?
Your network is defined as the group of users which are directly connected to you
and those users that are directly connected to them.
Your direct connections make up the 1st degree of your network.
The people connected to each of your direct connections make up your 2nd degree.
This chain of trusted connections gives you inside access to a large network of
professionals, companies and industries – relationships that you can use to help
one another as you advance your own career.
How is it different from CyVee network?
The CyVee network (or CyVee community) is the whole universe of CyVee users. As
a user, you can search for people from among those professionals and reach any of
them via CyVee messaging system.
How do I contact people on CyVee?
Once you find someone on CyVee whom you want to contact, there are several ways
to get to them:
a. Send them a private message. Please note that there
will be limits on the number of messages sent per day to protect our users from
spammers.
b. Invite them to connect with you. You should only
do this if you know the person well as they will have access to more
information and you might be asked about them. Please note that they can choose
to decline the invitation and that there will also be limits on the number of messages
sent per day.
c. Get introduced by a common friend. If the person
you found is 2 degrees away from you (e.g. friend of friend), you can ask your common
friend to introduced you.
d. Leave a note on the whiteboard. This whiteboard is
public so everyone else can view this. Do not put personal information here.
What if I want to send more messages to other users?
Sending more messages than the daily limits will cost CVD per message. If you upgrade your account to Premium, the limits will be removed.
What is an invitation by email?
In addition to inviting existing CyVee users through the link found in their profiles,
you can invite your friends, colleagues, and classmates to join by sending them
invitations by email. Once they receive the invitation in the emails, they will
need to register to join CyVee to connect to you. Remember, every 5 new user you invite to join you on CyVee will earn you 1 month of free upgrade to Premium.
When does an invitation expire?
Invitations will expire after 4 weeks if there are no replies from the receivers.
CyVee will send out reminders 2 weeks before expiry date.
What is an introduction?
If you want to connect with a person two degrees away (friend of friend), it’s still
better to get introduced. Just like in the real world, you will write a message
and your friend will forward it to the person. Of course, your connection may choose
not to forward.
How do I remove a person from my list of connections?
To remove one or more people from your list of connections, go to My Connections
page, and click on “Remove” in the right-hand margin, and follow the instructions
provided.
What do I do if I don’t want to receive more communications from certain individuals?
You can block any users from contacting you. Simply open a message from that user
and click on “Block”. Please note that they can still write on your whiteboard.
To remove this user from block list, go to “Account & settings > Privacy settings”
If the messages make you uncomfortable, please feel free to report it to our Admin
team.
